First Year Curriculum

The Freshman Engineering Academic Program is a two-semester program designed on the basis of the common curriculum requirements of the eight, discipline-specific CoE undergraduate programs. The coursework content of this program is as follows:

Calculus I Eligible

For freshman engineering students beginning their academic career in Calculus I (Math ACT of 30 or higher/or Math SAT of 680 or higher), the most common coursework is listed below:

In the spring semester, students are required to select one of the following courses:

  • CHEM 1123/1121L University Chemistry II
  • PHYS 2074 University Physics II

In choosing a course from this list, students are made aware of the preferences of each CoE undergraduate program. However, all CoE undergraduate degree programs accept both of these courses.

University Core Elective

In the spring semester, students are required to select a university core elective. More information on these courses is available in the University of Arkansas Catalog of Studies at catalog.uark.edu.

Precalculus Eligible

Many Freshman Engineering students begin their academic career in Precalculus Mathematics (Math ACT minimum 26/or Math SAT minimum 600). The Freshman Engineering Academic Progam changes slightly for these students as shown below.
